What is Soil Testing?
Soil testing is the scientific process of analyzing a soil sample to determine its nutrient content, composition, pH level, and other characteristics such as salinity, organic matter, and texture. How to do It?
Soil testing involves collecting soil samples from different parts of a field, drying them, and sending them to a laboratory for analysis. To begin, divide your field into uniform sections based on crop type, topography, or past management. Using a clean tool, take soil samples from a depth of about 15 cm at several spots in each section and mix them together to make a composite sample. Place the sample in a clean bag, label it properly, and send it to an authorized soil testing lab. The lab will analyze the sample for pH, organic matter, and nutrient content like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and provide recommendations for fertilization and soil improvement.
